During our January escape to Laguna Beach, we seemed to have brunch or lunch plans with friends almost every Sunday, except for our last one there, which we penciled in for a "lazy Sunday." And lazy it was..we happened to have a car that week so we drove down the PCH about 3 miles to Coyote Grill where they have amazing huevos rancheros and chiliquiles overlooking the ocean. We brought the LA Times and planned to read it but Gus had other plans and was gobbling up a kids melon plate the entire time. We went to walk along the park near the Montage and somehow made our way to the outdoor restaurant there overlooking a very scenic view of the ocean and coastline. Since Gus was napping, we got a glass of bubbly and finally read the LA Times for a bit. Then we walked around a little bit and checked out their fire pit, until it started to pour, sending us back to our place for a couple of hours. We were heading out to see a movie in Newport Beach in the late afternoon when the sun popped out and we decided to walk along the water in Corona del Mar. But, it was super windy so we just kept driving and somehow wound up seeing the entrance to the Balboa Ferry. Jeff had never been on it, so we hopped aboard - $3 per car. It is kind of strange to be on a car ferry in the middle of the bay in The OC, but also kind of cool. We wound up having an early dinner of pasta and salad at Mama D's Italian Restaurant in Newport that really hit the spot, then went home to watch the SAG awards. Our OC besties were actually at the awards and my friend was texting me close up pics from the red carpet of JT, Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Nicole Kidman, the cast of The Office and many more. All in all, a perfect lazy SoCal Sunday.
