WMC: Friday
Friday we slept in and decided to spend the day on the beach and floating in the pool, and it was fab to just relax and sip some mai tais in the sun. The pool at our hotel was on the small side but the perfect temperature, and the hot tub was nice and toasty, perfect for a soak. It wasn't super hot - probably 75 and breezy. And I liked that we could have lounge chairs and towels right down on the beach as guests of the hotel.
After a relaxing day of doing nothing, we got ready and found a hilarious gay Russian taxi driver who was heading home to South Beach and on the way told us about the corruption in Miami - its basically a city created with drug money and you can tell. And a lot of things don't make sense and nobody can drive there - but its still the best place for a weekend getaway in the US in my opinion. He dropped us off at Lincoln Road and we walked down to the Delano to have a glass of white wine by the pool, but it was closed for a private party. Another Ian Schrager hotel, it's one of my favorites with white billowy curtains and tres modern chic decor. We found another outdoor spot for a glass of vino and little snack, and then met up with friends for an outdoor dinner at Sushi Samba on Lincoln Road. My old manager from Maya where I waitressed in SF (and met Jeff) went on to become the director of operations for Sushi Samba for a while, so whenever I went to NYC he would hook us up there and I became addicted - its the best. They have this delicious strawberry martini that I always get on the rocks - too good. We filled up on yummy and creative sushi rolls, ceviche and green tea ice cream and then walked down to B.E.D. to see Kaskade's show - bumping into our friends Chuck and Batia Love along the way.
Kaskade had EDX opening and I have been really digging his remixes and productions lately so wanted to get there early to catch part of his set, which I loved. The club was bumpin' and there were so many people packed in there, we couldn't even find the bar. Luckily we found our way to the VIP Bed they had reserved for Kaskade's entourage and they kept the champagne and Absolut bottle service flowing. We kicked off our shoes and settled in to our cozy little spot while mingling with Kaskade's BFF from college, his wife, one of the Beatport founders, a clothing designer from OC and even frequent Kaskade remixer Justin Michael stopped by. Everyone was super nice and we all had a blast. Kaskade played an incredible 3-hour set from 1:00 - 4:00 am and kept the crowd dancing and screaming the entire time - he never disappoints.
We also got to see a little sparkler show every time someone bought a huge bottle of Grey Goose for their VIP section - the presentation with the sparkler on the vodka bottle is quite dramatic and kind of hilarious. We first witnessed this phenomenon in Montreal a few years ago at a Kaskade show and thought all the crazy Euros were going to burn the club down as they danced with their sparkling bottles by the billowy curtains. I took a little video of the sparkling bottle service madness below. Don't even want to know how much that costs.
Anyhoo, due to all the free drinks, I was a bit buzzed by the end of the night and when EDX sat down in the booth with us I decided to tell him I'm a fan and we chatted for a while. I asked where he's from and got an enthusiastic, 'I am a from Italy but I a live in Switzerland!!" He seemed quite happy about it and having been there, I can definitely see why. Hilarious and amazing night overall..we finally headed home around 5:30 am.
