MIXED BLOOD RUN IS MAY 4 TO 27, OPENS MAY 6

(April 10, 2018) The world premiere of Beck Lee’s “Subprime” at Minneapolis’s famed Mixed Blood Theatre features a distinguished cast packed with local talent.  Directed by veteran director and actor Peter Moore, Lee’s dark comedy about two couples from Minneapolis who travel to New York on a bargain vacation none of them can afford, stars Bonni Allen, Jen Burleigh-Bentz, Charles Fraser, Dan Hopman and Jorge Quintero.  The show’s four-week engagement, produced by Media Blitz at Mixed Blood, 1501 South 4th Street, begins Friday May 4 at 7:30pm, with an opening on Sunday May 6 at 3pm, playing through Sunday May 27 at 3pm. Tickets are now on sale at www.subprimetheplay.com .
Set in the summer of 2008 when the American economy was imploding and so many were persuading themselves that things would be just fine, “Subprime” introduces us to two Minneapolis couples on a fun-filled bargain vacation to New York, who studiously downplay the state of their finances, their marriages and even their identities.

Charles Fraser and Jen Burleigh-Bentz are the Crocker-Kellys, and Bonni Allenand Dan Hopman as the Swensons.  The couples are neighbors on a well-kept Linden Hills street.  Minneapolis newcomer Jorge Quintero, who has been seen in the Ordway productions of “In the Heights” and Jesus Christ Superstar,” plays the bellman Ray who is full of good tips on how to enjoy their New York vacation.

Allen’s notable Mixed Blood credits include “Avenue Q” and “Barbecue.”  Burleigh-Bentz was featured on Broadway in “Mamma Mia!” and was in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” at Old Log Theatre and “The Music Man” at The Guthrie. Fraser’s many local credits include “Driving Miss Daisy” at The Jungle for which he shared an Ivey Award for ensemble acting. He was recently in Yellow Tree Theatre’s knockout hit “The Royale.” Hopman’s credits include Tom Stoppard’s “Rock and Roll” at Park Square and Theatre Latte Da’s “Into the Woods.”

The production design team includes several of Minneapolis’s top, award-winning designers: Joe Stanley (scenic design), Anita Kelling (sound design), Mike Wangen (lighting design), and Sara Wilcox (costumes). Toni Solie is the production stage manager.
Lee’s contemporary farce originated in Minneapolis, and had several developmental readings in New York, and was first seen publicly in a workshop in June of last year, at the Jersey City Theater Center.  Thomas Burns Scully, writing in onstageblog.com described the play as “the next ‘God of Carnage,’” calling it “staggering… a show that’s going to be talked about.”

  2. This place looks familiar perhaps. This dreamy location meets real glam at the hands of the manager. It’s sophistication with a dash of bliss. At our visit to this party venue there were several highlights.
