A-List For the VimLab Guac Off - Thursday, August 20

"Guac Off

Date/Time:Thu., August 20, 6:00pm-8:00pm

Price: $20

Guac Off
Jessica Armbruster

Guacamole is fast becoming one of those edible items that people boast they have a secret recipe for, joining the ranks of consumables like chili, potato salad, and pecan pie. The base is simple enough; all you really need is a ripe avocado, cilantro, lime, salt, onion, and tomato. But to make it really special, as with most guarded recipes, you need a top-secret ingredient. This Thursday at the second annual Guac Off, teams of up to five will be re-creating their greatest party hits. They will be given the basic ingredients listed above, plus three additional ingredients they bring themselves (is that curry powder, mango, or nutritional yeast that you taste?). Guests will be asked to sample and vote, while a panel of judges put in their two cents as well. Categories include: Most Authentic, Most Unique, Best Team Name (one group is competing under the name Guac Me Amadeus), and Audience Choice. The evening will also feature tons of tasty nosh, including a salsa bar, gazpacho, blue-cheese mousse, tortas, Indian-spiced doughnuts, margaritas, and Corona beer. DJ David Drone spins tunes. $20 presale only, click here for tickets."

Make sure you get your Tickets for the 2nd Annual VimLab/Metro Mag Guac Off @ Blue Uptown by tomorrow at 3:00 pm. The event goes from 6:00 - 8:00 pm tomorrow night and we won't have any tickets for sale at the door. We'll keep our fingers crossed for another lovely, rain/tornado free evening (you may recall the insanely gorgeous night we had for the 1st VimLab Guac Off last August..) but just in case it rains, the show will go on. All of the Guac Making Teams, Bars, Food and Music will be set up inside at Blue and there is plenty of room inside the luxurious apartment complex to accommodate everyone. If the weather cooperates, we can use their fabulous courtyard as well.
$20 TICKET INCLUDES: Margaritas, Coronas,

Check out some of Metro columnist
Scott Schneweis's creative ideas for his batch of Guac this year - I vote Guactomom. I'm wondering how he can possibly top his entry from last year - the "Rock Out With Your Guac Out" Jeans Cut Off Extravaganza. Join us tomorrow night to find out...
