Meat Patty That Squirts Out Cheese? You Betchya.

Well, after living in Minnesota for 5 years, I finally broke down and tried the "local cuisine" - The Juicy Lucy - at a friend's birthday party at The Blue Door in St. Paul Friday night. Apparently this technique of injecting American cheese into the meat patty was invented at Matt's Bar in south Minneapolis. It's our Philly Cheese Steak, our Chicago style hot dog, our NYC slice of 'za - and its delicious. Being able to squeeze your burger and watch melted, gooey cheese come out is kind of odd and I was in a complete grease coma afterward from also porking down some tator tots, fries, fried green beans and 2 beers. There are other variations you can try - a Lucy Blucy has bleu cheese and a Cajun Lucy has jalapenos and pepper jack cheese, but those don't sound as good to me as the classic American. Matt's Bar, The 5-8 Club and The Nook are supposed to have the best Juicy Lucy's in town...I guess I will need to try all of them to be a real Minnesoootan. Oh gash, you betchya, melk and yoooogurt.
