The Grammy's: Dance Music Edition

So I have been quite annoyed with the Grammy's the last few years for the way they treat Dance/Electronic music, which like it or not, is hugely popular around the entire world. They seem to nominate pop stars like Rihanna, Madonna or Justin Timberlake who create some sort of dancey track over actual dance artists. But things have been improving..last year they nominated Kaskade's track "Sorry" in the best remix category for Dirty South, who did an amazing job remixing his track. He didn't win, but still.

In my opinion, Kaskade's "Strobelite Seduction" should have been nominated for Best Dance Album, and won - but for some reason the Grammy people still have their heads up their asses and couldn't seem to figure that out. His album was so much better than any of the nominees, although I do enjoy Kylie and Cyndi's albums.

This year Daft Punk won Best Dance Recording and Best Dance Album. Don't get me wrong - I love me some Daft Punk, but its annoying that they won based on tracks that came out in 2002, but got popular again because Kanye sampled "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" in his amazing track, "Stronger" that already won him a Grammy last year. If they needed to give out another award for this song, they should have given the remix Grammy to Deadmau5, who did an incredible job remixing "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." See footage of Kaskade above, spinning the Deamau5 mix at Giant in Los Angeles, the first stop on our NYE Jet-Set Tour in 2008. I was there and the crowd went absolutely insane when he played that track.

As for the remix award, I love MGMT but hate Justice. The award should have gone to Deadmau5 for his remix of Morgan Page's "Longest Road." - one of the best tracks of the last few years.
