I bought "Fairytale Interrupted" on iBooks a few days ago and could not put it down til I finished it last night. Spent most of Saturday afternoon gobbling it up while my guys were napping..sometimes laughing out loud, sometimes crying, growing increasingly obsessed with JFK Jr and beyond saddened that he's not with us any more. Thinking back to the late 90s when he started the magazine "George," was named People Mag's "Sexiest Man Alive" and married Carolyn Bessette I was aware of JFK Jr and may have even walked by him when I lived in NYC in 1997 and picked up a little albino kid from school down in their neighborhood of Tribeca everyday. Many people I knew were obsessed with him during that time but I can't say I was..just kind of admired him and didn't think much about it. But this book, very well written by his former assistant RoseMarie who was more like his Chief of Staff and ran his entire life makes it almost impossible not to fall in love with John John. Her stories and descriptions of the Most Famous Man In The World show how funny, smart and kind he was. And insanely hounded by the press at all times, which he handled gracefully thoughout his 38 years. Watching a few interviews with him on You Tube made me tear up..he's just so nice. And hot. And almost innocent, like the very polite little boy he was. It's too tragic for words that he, Caroline and her sister Lauren died when the plane John was flying went down off the coast of Martha's Vineyard on the foggy night of July 16, 1999 en route to his cousin's wedding that Carolyn didn't want to attend. It's truly heartbreaking to read RoseMarie's account of how she learned about the tragic deaths of John and Carolyn, who had become like family they were so close. It's an emotional rollercoaster and you will most likely develop a slight to medium obsession with JFK Jr but I highly recommend reading this book.
