Secrets of the City Write-Up: "There's a new online magazine in town and tonight the North Washington Cafe will be a-buzz with digitally-inspired celebration! New entertainment site, South of Canada, plans to bring you news you can use, focusing on the Downtown Minneapolis area's best art, music, fashion, real estate, food and drinks. Helmed by some seasoned movers and shakers, we expect South of Canada will bring coverage of not just the major downtown players, but the quirky eccentricities and hidden gems that are tucked away between flashy marquees and looming hotels. In other words, this group knows their city well, and we're excited to see what "secrets" they'll uncover. Tonight's launch party includes complimentary appetizers, happy hour pricing all night, and a chance to meet the staff and learn about what's to come. The event runs from 6-9pm and is free and open to the public. For more info visit www.south-of-canada.com"
I just went to the new North Washington Cafe (formerly Java J's) for the first time on Sunday for breakfast with Jefe and Gus and we were impressed. I had a breakfast sandwich, sake bloody mary and coffee and all were delish - and cheap. We brought our Sunday NYT along and read it while Gus slept in his stroller, then walked home..which I'm sure will become something of a weekend tradition, esp in the summer when we can sit outside. And you can sign up to be a guest bartender, which Jefe is going to do some night. Looking forward to checking this out tonight..from what I've seen on South of Canada, its a much needed online magazine to promote downtown Mpls and the North Loop as neighborhoods where people (like me) love living.
