Let The Games Begin.

The 2010 Winter Olympics begin tonight. I've already set my DVR to record the opening ceremony, which starts at 6:30 pm CST, and am happy about this for a few reasons:

1. The winter Olympics are taking place in Vancouver - a city I fell in love with when we visited in May. That's when I got the shot of the very cool real-time countdown to the Olympics clock above. Here are some photos from our trip - it is spotless, gorgeous, surrounded by mountains and water, has some of the hippest bars and restaurants I've ever been to and the people there are ridiculously nice. Best city in North America, in my opinion. Maybe the world. Sohry aboot that, America. Canada has us beat. In fact, Vancouver was just ranked the world's #1 most liveable city. If we could transport our friends and families there, I'd move tomorrow.

2. Love the cute little mascots Sumi, Quatcha and Miga. In case you want to know what they posted on Match.com:
-Miga is a young sea bear who lives in the ocean with her family pod, beyond Vancouver Island, near Tofino, British Columbia. Sea bears are part killer whale and part bear. (Miga is part Kermode bear, a rare white bear that only lives in British Columbia.)
-Quatchi is a young sasquatch who comes from the mysterious forests of Canada. Quatchi is shy, but loves to explore new places and meet new friends.
-Sumi is an animal spirit who lives in the mountains of British Columbia. Like many Canadians, Sumi’s background is drawn from many places. He wears the hat of the Orca whale, flies with the wings of the mighty thunderbird and runs on the strong furry legs of the black bear.

3. I didn't really get into the summer olympics in 2008, mainly because it was the summertime and I wanted to enjoy the nice weather outside, not spend my time inside, glued to the TV. I was busy throwing boat parties, lounging on my roof deck and boating on lakes, so I barely saw any of it and paid as little attention as possible. But, I do enjoy watching winter sports, especially figure skating, skiing, luge and snow boarding - all things I am horrible at. And my favorite sport for the winter is chilling on the couch, watching TV, so I'll actually tune in this time.
