And now..A Random Story About Norm: My senior year of highschool, my chamber choir got invited to sing at Carnegie Hall. So, all 22 OC valleygirls and brahs descended on NYC for a week in April of 1995. We were so cool that we sang songs, in 4 part harmony, on a public bus. Like, gag me. We took a red eye there and were wandering around midtown like zombies the morning we arrived, when suddently a few of "us girls" spotted Norm MacDonald, who was hosting the "fake news" on SNL at the time. Being extremely lame, SNL obsessed 17-year-olds not used to spotting celebs, of course we decided to stalk him. We followed him a few blocks until he went into an apt building, where we befriended the doorman who told us in his thick accent "Oh ya, Adam Sandler, he lives heeyah too." Hoping to catch a glimpse of Opera Man, we continued our stake out and were rewarded a few minutes later with the emergence of Norm once again! I think we stalked him a few more blocks before he turned around and said hi to us and that we were kind of freaking him out. He was wearing a baseball cap that said "Germans Love David Hasselhoff" and signed dollar bills for us - the only paper we poor OC kids had on us. So, it was an awesome start to our trip. There were tulips everywhere, spring was in full bloom and being in NYC with my besties was amazing..its actually when I realized I am a city girl at heart, definitely not a suburb girl, and truly fell in love with New York City. Singing two songs on stage at Carnegie Hall with only 21 other people in bone chilling harmony was one of the best experiences of my life..seriously amazing.
Anyhoo, Norm is going to be performing some stand up this weekend at Rick Bronson's House of Come at the MOA - his first ever visit to the Twin Cities. I'm sure he'll find plenty of things to make fun of. Check out the interview in the Strib here, I might just have to stalk him once again at the MOA.
