Way To Make An Entire City Hate You, Meg Tuthill.

If you, like me and every normal person I've ever met in MN enjoy making use of the great outdoor drinking and dining establishments in Minneapolis during the few months of warm weather that we have on this godforsaken icy tundra, then Like this Facebook page immediately: Minneapolitans For Going Outside.

And see the City Pages article here, where they quote Meg and her completely idiotic reasons for creating this ridiculous amendment that makes no sense whatsoever. Her problems seem to come from people drinking alcohol at bars in Uptown near where she lives, not from doing it outside. What she really seems to want is Prohibition. What she should do is move to ABC Country where the only bars around are located inside a TGIMcBennibees Anoka/Blaine/Coon Rapids. And get off the Minneapolis City Council immediately.

Dumbass City Councilwoman Meg Tuthill has proposed an amendment to the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances that does the following:

* Limits bar/restaurant patrons from eating and drinking on any outdoor property (patios, rooftops, terraces, etc.). Once an outdoor space has reached a new stricter capacity, no additional patrons will be allowed on said patio. No smokers, no persons walking down the street, nobody looking for a breath of fresh air... period. The only persons allowed on outdoor property will be those with pre-determined seats.

* No glass in outdoor areas after 11pm.

* Prohibits outdoor bars at any bar/restaurant in Minneapolis.

* This amendment asserts that individual bar/restaurant properties will have to apply individually for special waivers ensuring that these new standards will NOT be applied objectively and uniformly. This will not hold all business owners to the same standard.

This poorly planned and poorly written legislation is coming out of left-field and will place a great strain on local businessowners who have kitted out their patios and will now need to hire more staff to enforce this strange policy.

Join the more than 20 local businesses who are stupefied by this latest proposal and keep up the tradition of dining outdoors before the City Council sets out to ruin our summer!

UPDATE: Due to increased pressure (from what we can assume this new Facebook community has put forth), Councilwoman Tuthill has removed her amendment from the agenda at Monday's REE Committee Meeting and tabled it for the time being.

She is sending the amendment back to her staff for further review and she is seeking more input from local bar/restaurant owners as well as from Minneapolis constituents. We can most likely expect to see this amendment proposed once again in the coming weeks.

THEREFORE, it is essential we keep those comments coming on this page and to your City Council members! Summer is almost here and we can't wait to raise a glass with all of our fans outside!
